It is Sam’s turn to come to the spotlight. She has had many different roles across Season + Taste and she currently is Jr. Sous Chef at Masa + Mezcal.
How long have you been with Season + Taste and what’s your background?
I’ve been with the company for 5 years. I really wanted to be a chef when I was at school. Kieran and Imogen found me at the Young Chef of the Year competition when I was 15, they contacted me and I joined Bakers & Co straight away.
What’s the best thing about your role?
I enjoy everything! I’ve worked in three of our sites, and I loved joining a brand new restaurant with new people and sharing my experiences from Bakers & Co and Bravas with them.
What’s the most challenging thing about your role?
When you first open a new venue and you have 200 covers in one evening! It is challenging, busy, but also really fun.
What sort of training have you been on?
I’ve had so many training opportunities. I did my college apprenticeship here, as well as the internal Season + Taste Apprenticeship program. I learned loads of things, from fish and meat butchery to the importance of seasonality and seasoning, and went on the odd cheese tasting!
What would you say to people who are thinking of joining the team?
Definitely join! It is one big happy family and everyone has been very supportive. People are friendly and there is so much to learn.
Where do you see your role progressing?
Sous Chef one day!
Which is your favourite Season + Taste venue?
Masa+Mezcal, obviously! It is amazing, the team is great, I like the atmosphere and there is something new to see everyday.
